The greater investment in safety technology solutions comes at a time when violence is top of mind for many and people are feeling uneasy at work, at school or on campus, in healthcare settings, and in their communities.
From communities, to schools, to corporate America, sectors are spending more money on safety technology

State & Local Government Leverages Technology
Rave has seen cities, towns, counties, and states across the country approaching safety in innovative ways, ensuring that new solutions or additional offerings are adaptable and can be paired with existing resources for optimal impact. A prime example of this progressive trend is taking place in California. In August, the state launched the world’s largest public safety incident data-sharing project. California will now utilize the public safety data aggregation, intelligence-sharing, workflows, and notification capabilities found in Rave Link to enable Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) data sharing, interoperability, and real-time information exchanges with mapping and data visualization from RapidDeploy.
Meanwhile, the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) is using Rave technology to power the state’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). Rave Alert is now a key part of the office’s preparation for severe weather events and allows all state departments, as well as local parishes, to effectively communicate, in real time, with residents about storm preparedness, response, and recovery. In New Mexico, the city of Albuquerque is taking a forward-thinking approach to mental health response by utilizing Rave 911 Suite and Rave Alert to deliver more tailored communications for constituents to help residents get access to the correct behavioral and mental health resources.
Schools Embrace Panic Button and Branded Safety Solutions
Efforts to improve school safety have been evident in recent months. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt mandated that the state’s 1,845 public K-12 and charter schools install Rave’s Panic Button by September 1. School administrators, faculty, and staff use Panic Button to instantly communicate emergencies to 9-1-1, on-site personnel, and first responders for an integrated and immediate response. The executive order resulted in more than 92% of schools downloading the app and 82.3% of school personnel “geo-fencing” their campus, naming their buildings, and adding staff into the system.
The appeal of custom-branded apps is also on the uptick at colleges and universities. Iowa State University has been using Rave Guardian for years but recently saw the value in a custom-branded app from AppArmor, which Rave acquired earlier in 2022, for the college’s Safe Ride Program. Similarly, the University of Notre Dame recently decided to utilize AppArmor for the school’s Work Alone program, which helps students working in labs and other spaces to feel safe during off-peak hours. Notre Dame is also a Rave Alert customer.
Engaging and Protecting the Workforce
The business community is interested in safety innovation for a variety of reasons.
AstraZeneca was trying to solve a small communications challenge with Rave Alert and Rave Collaborate but eventually saw their employees embracing safety technology and became an enterprise client, adding AppArmor for its entire U-based operations. AppArmor is now the company’s single app for communications, forms, and requests – a move that is not only streamlining operations and helping with engagement but ensuring that employees are building muscle memory for emergency situations.
The Cottonwood Malls in Albuquerque wanted to be sure their tenants and employees could be emailed, called, and texted if an emergency unfolded on the premises and secured Rave Alert for its mass notification purposes. In Michigan, Med Bio, a contract manufacturing company for the life sciences, is prioritizing operational efficiencies with Rave Alert. Med Bio’s HR team is using the solution for open enrollment purposes, as well as emergency management notifications.
Federal Agencies Are Emphasizing Efficiencies
And with the same goal of keeping employees safe and informed, a major federal agency recently invested in AppArmor to share workplace safety and employee engagement messages via a custom branded app. The agency had been piloting a program with AppArmor since January and recently expanded that effort so that the agency can effectively communicate with more than 81,000 employees working in 17 different locations. The new collaboration allows agency personnel to access site-specific preparedness and response guidance in one convenient, cohesive tool.
